Air probe thermometer – a thermometer that takes instant measurements of surrounding
air temperature by using an external probe
Baseline
investigation to use for comparison with readings taken later in the
course of the investigation.
Cold Spot – a spot where the temperature is colder than the surrounding area, usually
a warning sign that something is gathering energy and activity is likely.
Dowsing – is interpreting the motions of rods, pendulums and other such instruments to
obtain information (also called Divining).
Dowsing Rods – A pair of L-shaped rods usually of brass or copper, or a single Y-shaped
rod used for dowsing.
Ectoplasm – a physical substance created by, or accompanying a spirit materialization.
Electromagnetic Energy – a mix of electrical charges and magnetic fields that binds
nature.
EMF Meter/ELF Meter – devices that measure electric and magnetic fields.
EVP –acronym for “Electronic Voice Phenomena” , which are captured ghostly sounds
and/or words on an audio recording.
Ghost – some paranormal aspect of the physical form and/or mental presence that appears
to exist apart from the original physical form.
Ghost Hunter – a person whose goal is to experience and document ghostly activity.
Haunted Location – a place where ghostly activity occurs regularly and usually for more
than a year.
Hot Spot – in a haunted location it is a site where energy is focused and activity is
prominent.
Imprint – ghostly activity that is not interactive, it keeps playing back over and over as if
on a looped tape. A residual haunting.
Intelligent Haunting – one where the spirit or entity has the ability to interact with the
living and do things to make its presence known.
Materialization – the process a spirit or entity uses to create a physical representation of
itself in the physical world.
Medium – a person that has the ability to communicate with spirits.
Orbs – spherical shapes believed to be balls of gathering energy that appear on video and
still photography.
Paranormal Research – the study of phenomena considered unexplainable by mainstream
science.
Pendulum – A balanced weight (usually crystal, stone or metal) on the end of a string or
chain, that is used as a means to contact spirits. The pendulum is held
perfectly still by the top of the chain and questions are asked of the spirits.
They can answer by moving the pendulum in different directions.
Poltergeist – German for “noisy ghost” it is a spirit nor entity that displays violent
outburst of energy and interaction with the world. It only manifests when a specific individual or individuals are present.
Portal – It is believed to be a passageway between dimensions that spirits use to come
and go.
Revenant – An entity or spirit that comes back only a few times after death.
Scrying- the act of eliciting information from spirits or entities using a pendulum.
White Noise- A noise signal that has the same sound and energy level at all frequencies.
